Who qualifies
Open to the public; serves Orleans and Plaquemines Parishes, with spay/neuter transports for St. Charles and Terrebonne Parishes.
Book early. Many nonprofit clinics open appointments in batches and fill up fast. Some take walk-ins only until they hit capacity.
Expect a deposit. Many clinics charge a small booking deposit that's credited to your bill but lost if you no-show.
Check eligibility. Some programs are limited to certain ZIP codes, service areas or household incomes. Others are open to everyone.
Bring records. Past vaccine records can save you a repeat shot, and many surgery clinics require proof of rabies vaccination.
Ask for an estimate. Get the full price, including bloodwork, medications and add-ons, before treatment starts.
Most low-cost clinics can't handle emergencies. If your pet is having trouble breathing, collapses, has a seizure, is bleeding heavily or may have eaten something toxic, go to the nearest emergency vet now.
